Supervision

Supervision

Guardians should have access to regular supervision and coaching to ensure the quality of their work, to identify areas where a guardian needs support, to promote staff wellbeing or, in the case of voluntary guardians, appropriate conditions for exercising their roles, and to prevent burn-out. Supervision and coaching helps guardians to gain and continuously expand their knowledge and build the skills needed to carry out their tasks in accordance with the rights and the best interests of the child, while also safeguarding the own wellbeing.

A regulatory framework, or an otherwise structured approach, for the supervision and coaching of individual guardians contributes to ensuring consistent, positive and empowering working conditions in guardianship services. The regulatory framework should set out the responsible supervisors and the terms and conditions for regular and extraordinary meetings between guardians and supervisors, including individual and group supervision.
